When is the best time to buy a Medicare Supplement Plan?

The best time to purchase a plan is during your open enrollment period. Generally, it begins three months before the first day of the month in which you turn 65 and lasts for six months. During this time your Medicare Supplement is guaranteed issue, meaning an insurance company cannot turn you down.

Can I keep my current doctor with a Medicare Supplement?

Answer:

Yes, as long as your doctor accepts traditional Medicare. You can confirm your doctor’s status with Medicare at www.medicare.gov

What is the difference between Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage?

Answer:

Medicare Supplements fill the “gaps” that traditional Medicare doesn’t pay. With a Medicare Advantage plan, your traditional Medicare benefits are replaced and administered through a private insurance company.

Can my Medicare Supplement be canceled due to my health?

Answer:

No, Medicare Supplements are guaranteed renewable. Your policy can never be canceled due to health or age. As long as you continue to pay your premiums, your plan will remain in force.

Do Medicare Supplements cover prescription drugs?

Answer:

No, by law Medicare Supplements can no longer offer prescription drug coverage. Coverage can be purchased separately through a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). Rates and plans vary by insurer.
